Based on 9 February 1923, under the name of “Astronomical Society Flammarion” with the aim of dissemination ofastronomy and science that sattached to it. It’sinspired by thespirit and methods of Camille Flammarion.

The articles of association of the astronomical Society of Geneva (available at this link), were adopted by theconstituent general meeting of 8 march 1923, during which the first committee was elected, and of which the first president was mr. Jean-Henri Jeheber, bookseller. Are also mentioned the names of the 22 founding members (including M. Maurice’s Martheray, secretary-general, and Mr. A. Gandillon, secretary). In addition, on this occasion, theastronomer Camille Flammarion, who was born in Montigny-le-Roy (Haute-Marne), was appointed as president ofhonor, and his disciple Ferdinand Quénisset as an honorary member. It is known that the first-named was the founder of the astronomical Society of France and theauthor ofa large number ofpopular works from thehistory of astronomy.

Cafter a conference on this subject given by Ferdinand Quénisset in Geneva in the room of the reformation, located on the rue du Rhône, a conference that had a lot of success and impact, as the company saw the light of day.

Note that the first local was at the casino, St-Pierre, 3 rue de l’évêché, and theobservatory on the roof of the house in the Faubourg.

Finally, dated march 21, 1946, duringa general assembly, thearticle 1 of the constitution was modified, in the sense that our group became “Société Astronomique de Genève” with the aim, the development and dissemination of theastronomy and science that sattached to it.

Currently our office is located at 6, rue des Terreaux-du-Temple (next to the theatre of St.-Gervais). The society has about a hundred members, simply curious about the sky to theamateur and seasoned, the youngest being 10 years old and the oldest of 100 years!

Theatmosphere at the meeting is always very friendly because theactivity astronomical is always rich withwonder, discoveries, but also of moments of sharing, conviviality, ofexchanges ofexperience and acquired skills (large or small).
